UPSC NDA Eligibility

UPSC NDA Eligibility Criteria Nationality

To be eligible for the NDA Examination , candidates must meet the following nationality requirements. Both unmarried male and female candidates are eligible, provided they fulfill one of the criteria listed below:

Nationality: A candidate must be unmarried male/female and must be:

(i) a citizen of India

(ii) a subject of Nepal, or 

(iii) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, and East  African  Countries of  Kenya,  Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii) and (iii), above shall be a person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. 

A certificate of eligibility will not, however, be necessary in the case of candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal. 

UPSC NDA Age Limit

Age Limit

The NDA Age Limit will range between 16.5 years and 19.5 years for all the candidates.

Marital Status

Only unmarried male and female candidates are eligible.

Accepted Date of Birth Records

The date of birth must be as recorded in:

  • Matriculation or Secondary School Leaving Certificate.
  • A certificate recognized by an Indian University equivalent to Matriculation.
  • An extract from a Register of Matriculates certified by the proper authority of a University.

Documents Not Accepted

Horoscopes, affidavits, birth extracts from Municipal Corporation, service records, or similar documents will not be accepted.

UPSC NDA Education Qualification

To apply for the UPSC NDA Examination , candidates must meet the specific educational qualifications required for different wings of the National Defence Academy and Naval Academy. Below are the detailed qualifications required for each wing:

(i) For Army Wing of National Defence Academy: 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University. 

(ii) For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and for the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy: 12th Class pass with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent conducted by a State Education Board or a University. 

Physical Standards for UPSC NDA 

All candidates must be physically and mentally fit as per the guidelines provided by the Armed Forces Medical Services. Here’s an overview:

NDA Physical Eligibility for Female

NDA Physical Eligibility for females includes height and weight standards for Female Candidates Joining the NDA (Army). 

NDA Physical Eligibility for Male

The physical eligibility standards for male candidates joining the NDA (Army) include specific height and weight requirements. 

Notes for Female Candidates Joining NDA

To ensure candidates meet the physical standards, the following specific guidelines apply to female candidates joining the NDA:

Height and Weight Standards

  • Minimum Height: The minimum acceptable height for female candidates is 152 cm.
  • Weight Range: The minimum and maximum weight for height will be standard across all categories of personnel.
  • Underweight Candidates: Candidates with a weight below the minimum specified will not be accepted.

Candidates exceeding the maximum specified weight may be considered only in exceptional circumstances, provided they meet the following criteria:

  1. Body Mass Index (BMI):
    • The BMI should not exceed 25.
  2. Waist-to-Hip Ratio:
    • Should be less than 8for female candidates.
  3. Biochemical Parameters:
    • Blood sugar (fasting and post-prandial), blood urea, creatinine, cholesterol, and HbA1C% should all be within normal limits.
  4. Medical Fitness Certification:
    • A Medical Specialist must certify the candidate’s fitness.
